Marquez - Conga del Fuego
Chabrier - Habanera
Elgar - Cello Concerto
Rossini - L’Italiana in Algeri Overture
Sims - Sounds of Suffolk
Marquez - Danzon No. 2
The programme features Elgar's contemplative and elegiac Cello Concerto, a cornerstone of the Cello repertoire performed by local rising star, Catherine Howells.
Juxtaposed to the Elgar is music by living composers, Arturo Marquez and David Sims.
The music of Marquez evokes Latin America with fiery passion and syncopated rhythms, with the whole orchestra becoming increasingly boisterous leading to an emphatic close in both the Conga Del Fuego and Danzon No.2.
The BFO is excited to present a newly commissioned work by David Sims - 'The Sounds of Suffolk' which features five movements of music to depict areas of Suffolk in musical form. Hear Newmarket's equestrian pedigree brought to life, the use of an old plainchant hymn of St Edmund for Bury St Edmunds, and a sweeping vista of sound to feature the beauty of the Suffolk Coast.
Come along to our unique concert and be whisked away to Mexico and back to Bury St Edmunds!
